From the launch of Apple's Safari Extensions Gallery in 2010, Sessions has had a place in it. In the time since, it has been gratifying for me to hear from many users of Sessions around the world.
In tandem with the release of OS X 10.11, Apple is instituting a new policy wherein Safari Extensions, previously free to develop, will now require an annual $99 USD subscription. Without paying this yearly fee, extensions cannot be written at all, in any capacity.
I reject this new policy primarily out of principle. I have enjoyed working on Sessions, but I resolutely do not wish to encourage this decision and behavior. Browser extension development should not be more restricted and onerous than developing native code.
Apple will remove Sessions from the Safari Extensions Gallery this autumn when the new policies come into force. I will retain the ability to update Sessions until my Safari Developer certificate expires in 2016, after which the final version of Sessions should continue to function for users until a Safari update inevitably breaks it. While my involvement with Safari Extensions will end, I will continue to provide email support (as best I can, without the ability to debug or provide fixes) indefinitely.
Sessions is, has always been, and will forever remain, free.
Thank you for using Sessions. I hope that it has been useful for you.
